In a significant victory in the fight against crime, Limpopo police recovered stolen Volkswagen Polo allegedly being sold at reputable car dealership in Polokwane.
The vehicle, reported stolen in Jane Furse in May 2024, was seized by authorities on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
The recovery is part of joint operation between Waterberg Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) and local insurance companies, which resulted in recovery of four stolen vehicles.
Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, spokesperson for Limpopo Police, praised the initiative, saying it had produced positive outcomes and sent strong message to those involved in vehicle theft.
Key Breakthroughs:
– Silver Volkswagen Polo TSI: Identified at a towing service in Ga-Madiba
– Modified Vehicle: Discovered at a local scrap yard with a matching counterpart in Gauteng
– Toyota Hilux Bakkie: Removed from the road along Zebediela road due to discrepancies in its identification and license disc
– Volkswagen Polo with Mpumalanga Number Plates: Found at a scrap yard, with initial investigations suggesting it is still active and being driven around Johannesburg
Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and insurance companies, emphasising the importance of ongoing vigilance in combating crime and safeguarding the community
