Standard Bank and Shoprite launch UCount Rewards points on Checkers Sixty60

In a significant move for South African consumers, Standard Bank customers can now earn up to 40% back in UCount Rewards points when shopping on Checkers Sixty60, a service that has been branded as the country’s most generous giveback for on-demand shopping.

This exciting new initiative officially launched on Wednesday, April 16.

With this program, customers can earn and redeem rewards on the Sixty60 app when purchasing groceries, as well as over 10,000 general merchandise items ranging from air fryers to Apple AirPods.

What’s more, customers will benefit from same-day delivery within precise 60-minute windows. Additionally, UCount Rewards cardholders can earn up to 30% back when shopping at Shoprite and

Checkers supermarkets across the nation, allowing them to bank these rewards for future grocery purchases and everyday essentials.

Unlike other bank-retail partnerships, this program does not restrict customers to specific products or categories, increasing its appeal and flexibility.

These new benefits come on top of the more than R1 billion in instant cash discounts already offered by Xtra Savings, which has been recognized as the leading supermarket rewards program in South Africa since 2019.

Meredith Allan, the General Manager of Strategy and Rewards at ShopriteX, emphasized the collaboration as a pivotal moment in the effort to alleviate the cost of living for South Africans.

“The partnership between Africa’s biggest bank and the continent’s largest retailer is built around a shared goal of reducing the cost of living for South Africans. This is a long-term commitment to delivering real value where it matters most,” Allan stated.

Shoprite’s commitment to low prices and transparency continues with its longstanding dedication to providing customers with true value.

Funeka Montjane, Chief Executive of Personal and Private Banking at Standard Bank, expressed strong enthusiasm for this partnership.

“We welcome this partnership not only as a major milestone for our business but, most particularly, for the value it brings to our customers – effortlessly accessible at the tap of an app and in everyday transactions,” she remarked.

Shoprite remains steadfast in its position as the country’s low-price champion, consistently offering essential items such as a 600g loaf of bread for R5, R5 sanitary pads, and R5 deli meals available throughout the nation at all of its supermarkets.

These are not merely short-term promotional offers; they represent permanently subsidized products, with Shoprite selling an impressive 1.8 million units weekly.

Moreover, Checkers, recently recognized as South Africa’s strongest brand in the Brand Finance 2025 report, is witnessing a remarkable increase in customer engagement, with more than 75,000 additional shoppers choosing to visit its stores or shop online each day.

This growth underscores Checkers’ customer-first, omnichannel approach, marking a successful strategy in the competitive retail landscape.
