Trump declares war on foreign films: ‘Made in America or pay the price’

In a fiery post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump launched blistering critique of the global film industry, claiming foreign nations are “actively sabotaging” Hollywood through financial incentives designed to lure filmmakers overseas.

“The movie industry is dying a very fast death here,” Trump wrote, framing the issue as an existential threat to both American culture and national security. “Other countries want to steal our storytellers, our jobs, and our voice. We will not let them.”

The proposed solution? A sweeping 100% tariff on all foreign-produced films entering the U.S., to be enforced immediately by the Department of Commerce and U.S. Trade Representative.

Trump framed the move as both an economic revival plan and a defense against foreign propaganda, accusing rival nations of weaponising cinema to “weaken American resolve.”

His closing rallying cry – “We want movies made in America again!” – evoked nostalgic undertones of his “America First” agenda.
