Traffic police examiner in court for fraud

Limpopo Traffic Police Examiner, Petrus Maritsane Santi, aged 60, appeared before the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court on June 10, 2025, for alleged fraud and corruption.

Santi was arrested by the Polokwane-based Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation and Road Traffic Management Cooperation (RTMC) during an operation on June 9, 2025.

It is alleged that Santi, who was working at the Modimolle Testing Station in 2021, helped applicants obtain learners’ and driver’s licenses without following proper procedures.

In exchange, he reportedly received gratification ranging from R6000 to R12000.

The Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa, stated that information about Santi’s actions was brought to their attention by whistleblowers.

An investigation was launched, and the case was handed over to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Polokwane.

After a warrant of arrest was issued, Santi was apprehended while on duty at the Modimolle Testing Station in the Waterburg District.

He was granted bail of R10,000 and the case was postponed to September 10, 2025, for further investigations.

Major General Advocate Gopz Govender, the Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo, commended the collaborative efforts of the Hawks, RTMC, NPA, and community members for taking a stand against fraud and corruption by reporting suspicious activities to the police.
