JOHANNESBURG – Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) has informed the National Consumer Commission (NCC) of a safety issue affecting the handbrakes of Polo Vivo vehicles built last year.
The issue has been detected in some Vivos built between February 2025 and February 2026.
As a result of the problem affecting handbrake levers, there is a risk they may not engage correctly or may disengage. Volkswagen has proactively reported the safety risk to its customers.
Customers who purchased their Vivos within the affected timeframe are advised to visit their nearest Volkswagen dealership for an inspection of the vehicle and, if necessary, for repairs at no cost. Volkswagen will also be contacting the owners of the affected vehicles directly.
Alternatively, customers can reach out to the Volkswagen Customer Interaction Centre at 0860 434 737 or support@vwconnect.co.za for assistance.
The recall underscores Volkswagen’s commitment to safety and its proactive approach to addressing potential issues that could impact its customers.
