U.S. President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement after reports of gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz targeting a French vessel and a British freighter.
In a fiery post on his Truth Social account, Trump threatened severe retaliation if Iran rejects proposed deal during upcoming negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan.
“Iran fired bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz—a total violation of our ceasefire agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French ship and a freighter from the United Kingdom,” Trump wrote. “My representatives are heading to Islamabad tomorrow evening for negotiations.”
Trump claimed Iran’s decision to close the Strait of Hormuz was counterproductive, as the U.S. blockade had already shut the passage.
He alleged the closure costs Iran $500 million daily, while the U.S. faces no losses.
“They’re helping us without knowing, and they are the ones that lose with the closed passage,” Trump said, adding that American ships are currently en route to ports in Texas, Louisiana, and Alaska to load oil.
He warned Iran to accept what he described as a “fair and reasonable deal” or face devastating consequences.
“If they don’t take the deal, the United States is going to knock out every single power plant and every single bridge in Iran. No more Mr. Nice Guy!”
Trump concluded his post with a sharp rebuke of previous U.S. administrations. “It will be my honor to do what has to be done, which should have been done to Iran by other presidents for the last 47 years. It’s time for the Iran killing machine to end!”
The post has sparked widespread debate online, with critics accusing Trump of escalating tensions in the region and supporters praising his hardline stance.
Neither the Iranian government nor the U.S. State Department has issued an official response to Trump claims.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments, has long been a flashpoint for geopolitical tensions. Iran’s recent actions in the area have raised concerns about the stability of the region and the potential for further escalation.
