POLOKWANE, October 1 – A 66-year-old crèche transport driver appeared in Morebeng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday charged with raping a three-year-old girl in Botlokwa village, sparking condemnation from Limpopo safety officials.
Selaelo Justice Mongalo, husband of the childcare facility’s owner, was arrested on September, 25 after the victim’s guardian noticed distress and pain following a late drop-off. Medical examinations confirmed sexual assault, police said.
Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for a “swift and professional” investigation.
Mongalo, remanded until October. 8 for a bail hearing, faces charges linked to the Sept. 25 incident, which occurred around 18:30 as he transported children home.
Provincial transport MEC Violet Mathye joined Hadebe in denouncing the crime, vowing accountability for perpetrators.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed the case was transferred to Polokwane’s specialized unit for further investigation.
“Only through relentless justice can we heal these scars,” Hadebe said, pledging full support for the victim.
