Pret A Manger, the popular sandwich and coffee chain with more than 700 locations across 21 countries is set to open its second store in South Africa on Saturday, May 31, The Zone in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
What makes this store special is its unique mural designed by Precious Mogoje, a talented graphic design student from the University of Johannesburg.
Her artwork will showcase the vibrant culture of Johannesburg alongside Pret signature Emanating Star, adding a local touch to the international brand.
The opening of the Rosebank store follows the successful launch of Pret A Manger first location in Melrose Arch earlier this year, which has quickly become a favourite among locals.
The Millat Group and Pret A Manger leadership team organised a competition inviting graphic design students from the University of Johannesburg to create a mural that embodies the essence of Johannesburg.
Mogoje’s design was chosen from several impressive submissions, highlighting the city’s rich culture and creative spirit.
Since its debut in February, the Melrose Arch store has surpassed expectations, attracting a steady stream of customers who appreciate Pret commitment to fresh, high-quality food and organic coffee.
Feedback from patrons has been overwhelmingly positive, with many returning for repeat visits and recommending the store to friends and family.
“The support has been phenomenal. It’s become a community space, and that is exactly what we envisioned,” said Altaaf Kazi Millat Group Vice President: Corporate Communications and Business Development, adding Rosebank is the natural next step for us.
The new Rosebank location will benefit from its prime spot within a bustling urban district, conveniently situated next to the Gautrain station and surrounded by a mix of retail centers, hotels, and residential areas.
This area attracts a diverse crowd, including commuters, tourists, and students, making it an ideal environment for Pret’s fresh, on-the-go offerings.
“We believe that the Rosebank store will further validate our brand potential in South Africa,” Kazi added.
To celebrate the opening, customers can look forward to various activations at the Rosebank store this weekend.
Pret will showcase its origins and commitment to freshly prepared food while offering free coffee vouchers at selected points within The Zone in Rosebank.
These events aim to engage the community and enhance customer experience as the brand continues to grow in South Africa.
Pret A Manger operates with a strong focus on sustainability and community involvement.
All food is prepared fresh in-store daily, and any unsold items are donated to local charities.
This commitment to ethical sourcing and social responsibility is paramount to Pret’s mission, both globally and locally.
With more than 700 locations across 21 countries, Pret A Manger is gaining momentum in South Africa, with plans for further expansion already in the works.
As it continues to resonate with local customers, the brand aims to blend its global philosophy with the unique culture of Johannesburg.
The opening of the Rosebank store represents not just an expansion of the brand, but a celebration of local creativity and community spirit.
