Shoprite ensures essential items remain affordable

As South African consumers continue to face economic challenges, Shoprite has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping essential items affordable.

The retailer announced on Tuesday that it is offering some of the most competitively priced products on the market, without compromising on quality or nutritional standards.

Independent laboratory analyses, commissioned by Shoprite, compared burger patties from various retailers and found that Shoprite’s R5 ox liver burger is not only affordable but also packed with protein.

The burger contains 13.6g of protein per 100g, making it comparable to more expensive beef options while also containing less fat than standard beef patties.

“We are dedicated to providing nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals to as many South Africans as we can, every day of the week,” stated Andrew Gardener, Chief Operating Officer at the Shoprite Group.

The R5 ox liver burger is part of Shoprite’s permanent collection of low-cost essentials available nationwide, including bread, takeaway meals, sanitary products, purified water, and meal kits for a family of four.

“These items are not temporary promotional deals with conditions. Each week, Shoprite subsidises over 1.8 million R5 products, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to affordability and accessibility without compromising quality,” added Gardener.

Shoprite affordable essentials can be found at supermarkets across the country, ensuring that customers can enjoy quality products at affordable prices.
