U.S. Seeks UN backing for Gaza security force to disarm Hamas, govern strip until 2027

NEW YORK — The U.S. has drafted a United Nations Security Council resolution proposing an International Security Force (ISF) to govern Gaza for at least two years, with authority to disarm Hamas and manage the territory security through 2027, according to an Axios report confirmed by the Institute for Public Accuracy (IPA) on Tuesday.

The resolution, circulated Monday, designates the ISF as an “enforcement force” rather than a peacekeeping mission, granting participating nations — potentially including Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Turkey — direct governance and security oversight. A U.S. official told Axios the force could engage Hamas militarily if the group refuses voluntary disarmament.

A proposed “Board of Peace,” chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump, would oversee the ISF.

The plan aligns with broader U.S. efforts to stabilize Gaza post-conflict but faces skepticism over regional troop commitments and political feasibility.

Controversy and Context

Accountability Concerns: AntiWar.com reported Monday that Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in Gaza, raising the death toll to 238 since a fragile ceasefire began.

Separately, Israel arrested a former IDF legal adviser linked to a leaked video allegedly showing soldiers sexually assaulting a Palestinian detainee.

Colonialism Allegations: Former UN human rights official Craig Mokhiber accused the U.S. and allies of “conspiring to merge colonial plans” to legitimize Gaza’s “subjugation,” citing Colombia’s alternative proposal for Palestinian rights protections as a counterpoint.
