A coalition of prominent South African Afrikaners has condemned efforts to frame their community as victims of racial persecution, rejecting Trump-era proposal to prioritise white South Africans for U.S. refugee status.
In a joint statement, academics, clergy, journalists, and civil leaders warned against weaponising their identity to advance far-right “Great Replacement” ideologies.
“We categorically oppose narratives distorting South Africa’s complex realities to fuel division.
Crime and inequality impact all races here—elevating white suffering dishonours shared struggles and emboldens extremist violence,” the group asserted.
Signatories emphasised their commitment to post-apartheid nation-building, criticising U.S. and local groups like AfriForum for misappropriating Afrikaner heritage to promote exclusionary agendas.
The statement explicitly rejects the term “white genocide,” calling it a narcissistic distortion amid global humanitarian crises, and stresses that refugee protections should prioritise vulnerability over race.
Signatories include constitutional law expert Pierre de Vos, former diplomat Gert Grobler, and journalist Max du Preez, among 40+ professionals.
“Afrikaner identity thrives in diversity—not as a monolith under threat,” the group concluded, urging international observers to resist politicised narratives undermining South Africa multiracial democracy.
