Air travel in South Africa on the brink: DA demands accountability as crises mount

????????????????????????????????????

South Africa’s airports are in dire straits, and the Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for urgent intervention.

The party is insisting that Minister Creecy and senior executives from Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) testify before a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee, as service failures continue to spiral out of control.

Dr. Chris Hunsinger, DA MP and Transport spokesperson, did not mince words: it is simply unacceptable for flights to be canceled due to departmental negligence.

A recent fuel pump breakdown at Cape Town International Airport, coupled with alarming fuel supply issues at OR Tambo International Airport, underscores the pressing nature of the crisis.

Hunsinger took aim at Minister Creecy, criticizing her approach to managing the aviation sector. He advocated for sweeping reforms and solid upgrades rather than temporary band-aid solutions.

Restoring stability within the sector is imperative, he argued, not only to regain business trust but also to stave off further economic turmoil.

With the peak tourist season already impacted by last year’s airport disruptions, Hunsinger cautioned that failure to act could result in lost revenue, diminished investor confidence, and long-term damage to South Africa’s global standing.

He is urging both Minister Creecy and ACSA to respond decisively to the escalating crisis.

The DA remains steadfast in its commitment to holding the government accountable, emphasizing that without prompt and effective action, every South African will bear the brunt of ongoing airport challenges.
