ANC rejects AfriForum ‘Mbalula Dossier’ amid social media reactions

The African National Congress (ANC) has firmly dismissed “Mbalula Dossier” published by AfriForum, denouncing it as a politically driven attempt to tarnish its reputation.

The document has thrust ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula into the spotlight of an intense online debate, sparking widespread reactions across social media.

Public sentiment is divided. Calvin Baloyi observed, “Today it’s the Brigadiers and Generals, tomorrow it’ll be the big names—credit to AfriForum and Gen Mkhwanazi.”

Awelani Scubie offered a more sardonic take: “Is this another case of a swimming pool turning into a fire pit?” Others have probed deeper into Mbalula’s past associations.

Stanley Pretorius raised eyebrows over financial ties, asking, “Odd that you borrowed from the Docrats who own Sedgars SPORTS while serving as sports minister… convenient, isn’t it?”

In contrast, Shaun Abraham highlighted a perceived contradiction, noting, “I thought AfriForum was quoting you, not the ANC.”

A key point of contention is whether the dossier aims at Mbalula personally or seeks to undermine the ANC as a whole. Bulelwa Lela Landingwe posed the question directly: “Was the movement targeted, or were you the intended focus?”

Critics such as Jan De Wit suggest the ANC’s rebuttal focuses more on discrediting AfriForum than confronting the substance of the claims. He argued, “If you were truly innocent, you wouldn’t cry slander—you’d seize the chance to clear your name.”

As the discourse intensifies, there is growing insistence on evidence-based responses.

Aubrey Motsamai stressed that Mbalula must counter the allegations with verifiable facts rather than personal attacks. “Fikile Mbalula should refute the AfriForum dossier with concrete evidence,” he asserted.

In a climate marked by public doubt, the ANC capacity to respond transparently and substantively to these serious accusations could significantly influence its future credibility and the perceived integrity of its leadership.
