The African National Congress (ANC) strongly denounces the recent statements made by representatives of Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party, reported to have threatened violence against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and have undermined the foundations of our democracy.
The ANC views the statement as not only reckless but also as a direct threat to the institutions of democracy and the people of South Africa, containing threats of anarchy, riots, and the disruption of elections.
According to the ANC, inflammatory rhetoric has no place in our democratic society and contradicts the principles of peaceful coexistence and respect for the rule of law.
The ANC urges all South Africans to unite against any attempts to intimidate or undermine the integrity of our democratic institutions, emphasising the need for citizens to remain vigilant and report any acts of intimidation or violence to the relevant authorities.
The ruling party emphasises the importance of reaffirming the commitment to upholding the democratic process and ensuring that all eligible citizens can freely exercise their right to vote without fear.
The ANC asserts that threats of violence have no place in our democracy and must be unequivocally condemned by all political parties and civil society organisations.
In response to these threats, the ANC reaffirms its dedication to promoting peace, stability, and the rule of law.
The party has raised its voice, calling on all South Africans to reject violence and collaborate to safeguard our democratic institutions and the rights of all citizens.
