The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) in Limpopo has strongly condemned the brutal killing of two women by farmers, labeling it “barbaric” and “inhumane.”
“This incident represents the worst form of gender-based violence and is a disturbing reflection of the ongoing scourge of femicide that plagues our country,” said the ANCWL in a statement.
The two women, aged 47 and 34, were allegedly shot and killed by farm owner Zacharia Olivier and two workers, Rudolf de Wet and William Musora, who then fed their remains to pigs.
The perpetrators have been arrested and will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on August 30.
“We welcome the arrest of the perpetrators, but we expect justice to be served swiftly and without leniency,” said the ANCWL.
“We demand that the courts reject bail and ensure these monsters spend the rest of their lives behind bars.”
The ANCWL expressed solidarity with the victims’ families, offering condolences and support.
“We cannot begin to comprehend the pain xxxand suffering that the families are enduring, and we extend our unwavering support to them during this time.”
The ANCWL called on the Ministers of Police and Justice, as well as law enforcement institutions, to take decisive action to curb violence against women. “Women’s rights are human rights, and we will not allow them to be violated with impunity.”
The organization also demanded regulatory measures to prevent farm owners from becoming “laws unto themselves” and creating “no-go zones” in farmlands.
The ANCWL said it remains committed to fighting gender-based violence and femicide.
“We will continue to stand up for the rights and dignity of all women in South Africa, and we will not rest until justice is served for these victims and all others who have suffered at the hands of violent criminals.”
