‘Beware of employment scams’ Limpopo police warn job seekers

Authorities in Limpopo are alerting job hunters to be cautious of fraudsters posing as recruiters for the South African Police Service (SAPS).

These scammers are conning unsuspecting individuals by demanding money in exchange for false promises of employment.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has issued a stern warning about a troubling rise in fraudulent recruitment schemes targeting hopeful candidates in the province.

The Police Commissioner emphasized, “These deceptive offers of SAPS jobs in return for financial compensation are utterly fraudulent.”

Lieutenant General Hadebe firmly stated, “You cannot buy a position within the South African Police Service. Employment is not for sale.”

The cunning tactics of these criminals have led to severe consequences, including the recent conviction of a 46-year-old man to 60 years in prison for rape and robbery under the guise of offering employment to his victims in Mokopane.

To protect yourself from these malicious schemes, Lt. Gen. Hadebe suggests taking the following preventive measures:

  • Verify Recruitment Information: Always refer to the official SAPS website for legitimate job listings and application procedures.

  • Report suspicious activities: Contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or visit your nearest police station if you come across any dubious activities.

-Use official channels: Utilise the My SAPSApp to report crimes and access police services.

Lt. Gen. Hadebe assures the public that SAPS’ recruitment and selection processes are transparent and merit-based, with no financial obligations involved.

Ongoing investigations seek to clamp down on these scams, so victims are urged to step forward and share their experiences.

Stay vigilant and remember: genuine job opportunities never require payments.

“If you’ve fallen victim to such a scam or know someone who has, report it immediately,” added Lt Gen Hadebe.
