In a brazen act of criminality, a group of suspects armed with firearms ambushed two security guards at Glen Alpine Dam in Tolwe, northwest of Lephalale, on Tuesday.
The suspects threatened and tied up the guards before robbing them of their cellphones.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the suspects also managed to break a transformer and steal copper cables worth a staggering R340,000 before fleeing the scene with their loot loaded in a wheelbarrow.
The incident has not only left the security guards shaken but has also resulted in significant damage to essential infrastructure.
The Limpopo police have registered cases of robbery with firearms and tampering with essential infrastructure, and investigations are ongoing.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has urged the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in this heinous crime.
Police said investigations are continuing.
