Mpumalanga police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of a fatal stabbing incident that occurred at a tavern in Collegeview, Bushbuckridge in the early hours of Saturday.
Mpumalanga Police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli confirmed 25-year-old man, identified as Bright Mnisi from Mkhuhlu near Hazyview, was killed in the incident.
“A 26-year-old suspect has since been arrested on the same day of the incident, thanks to the exceptional work by the men and women in blue from Bushbuckridge,” said Mdluli.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 7, where he will face a murder charge.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown at this stage and forms an integral part of the ongoing investigation by the Police.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has commended the diligence and determination of members in swiftly apprehending the suspect.
General Mkhwanazi also expressed his concern about the prevalence of crimes that emanate from liquor outlets and urged liquor traders to adhere to regulations and prioritize the safety of their patrons.
“We continue to work tirelessly to combat crime and bring offenders to justice,” added the General.
