Cleaning House: SIU probe to uncover Limpopo sports department corruption

Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is set to wield a mighty cleaning broom as they delve into the murky waters of corruption within Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture.

With allegations of questionable procurement practices, irregular staff appointments, and mismanagement of cultural events, Democratic Alliance (DA) is hopeful this long-overdue probe will finally shine  light on suspected wrongdoing that has been plaguing the department for years.

DA Limpopo spokesperson on  Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Advocate Franco Marx,  said his party is optimistic SIU’s investigation will uncover the truth behind the allegations of maladministration, unlawful conduct, and financial losses dating back to 2011.

With Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) draft report from 2017 already calling for forensic investigation into the Mapungubwe Arts Festival, the spotlight is set to shine brighter on the department’s activities.

In a stern statement on Tuesday, Marx emphasised the importance of holding those responsible for corruption and maladministration accountable.

“With the people of Limpopo deserving transparency and ethical leadership, the SIU’s probe is seen as a step in the right direction towards cleaning house and restoring trust in the government,” added Marx.

As the SIU rolls up their sleeves and prepares to dig deep into the dirt of corruption, the people of Limpopo can only hope that this investigation will bring about the change and accountability they so desperately need.
