In what seems like a plot straight out of a Hollywood movie, a total of sixteen driving licence accused suspects are set to make their court appearances in different Limpopo courts tomorrow.
The suspects, including a Management Representative, examiners, administration clerks, and driving school instructors, were nabbed in a joint operation by the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the Hawks in Lephalale on Friday.
And if that wasn’t enough, more arrests were made over the weekend, bringing the total number of accused to sixteen.
For the group of five arrested in Lephalale, tomorrow will mark their first court appearance for bail application before the local magistrate’s court.
As for the other seven accused who were arrested in December 2019 at the Mutale Driving Licence Testing Centre in Thohoyandou, they will be appearing at the Giyani Commercial Crime Court for trial.
The accused are facing charges of Fraud and Corruption after it was uncovered that driver’s licences were being sold for a minimum of R8 600 per applicant.
The arrests came after a community outcry about alleged corruption at the testing stations, prompting the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the Hawks to launch investigations.
But the saga is far from over, as more arrests are expected in the near future.
Members of the public are urged to report any instances of fraud, bribery, and corruption by sending a WhatsApp to (083) 293-7989 or an email to ntacu@rtmc.co.za.
