In a massive blow to criminal activity, a high-density police operation in Limpopo has resulted in the arrest of 698 suspects for various offenses, including illegal immigration, malicious damage to property, and driving under the influence.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Limpopo Police spokesperson, praised the joint operation, saying: “The success of this operation is a testament to the power of collaboration between police units, external security forces, and community role players.”
The operation, dubbed “Shanela,” targeted liquor licensed premises, second-hand dealers, vehicle control points, and roadblocks, among other areas. Confiscated items included tobacco products, stolen vehicles, firearms, drugs, and counterfeit goods.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe warned: “As we head towards the festive season, we will strengthen our operations to maintain a peaceful and crime-free province. Criminals beware!”
Some suspects have already appeared in court, facing charges ranging from burglary to rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
