The Democratic Alliance (DA) is gearing up for the Local Government Elections, launching the first round of applications for mayoral candidates in four major Metros – Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, and Mangaung.
DA Federal Council Chairperson, Helen Zille announced the initiative, emphasising importance of these positions for effective governance.
Aspiring candidates have until March 31, 2025, to submit their applications, with Zille confirming that further rounds for additional Metros and Municipalities will follow.
“The DA is on the lookout for exceptional leaders to fill these vital roles, and candidates will face thorough selection process in the months ahead,” said Zille.
She said interviews and assessments will be conducted, featuring questions drawn from a pre-approved bank to prioritise fairness and integrity throughout the evaluation process.
Zille said final candidates will be vetted and approved by the Federal Executive, ensuring only the most dedicated and knowledgeable individuals, with strong understanding of local governance, are put forward.
Zille made it clear selected candidates must be ready to take decisive action against corruption disintegration of services in these Metros.
“The DA is committed to governing these areas effectively and is determined to elect outstanding Mayors to lead rescue mission,” she stated.
