The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have launched a scathing attack on the Democratic Alliance (DA), accusing the party of harbouring deep-seated racism within its ranks.
The EFF has condemned a series of recent incidents involving DA leaders allegedly engaging in blackface and using racist language, sparking outrage among South Africans.
The controversy surrounding a video of DA leader Ian Cameron in blackface at an Afriforum protest in 2012 has reignited discussions on the prevalence of white supremacy within the party.
The EFF has pointed to the historical context of blackface as a symbol of dehumanisation and violence, calling for an end to such behaviour.
In addition to Cameron’s blackface scandal, DA MP Renaldo Gouws was caught using violent racist language in a video, while MP Alf Lees made a disturbing statement during a parliamentary debate in 2017.
The EFF has slammed the DA for its failure to address the issue of racism among its members, citing a pattern of racist behaviour within the party.
The EFF has urged South Africans to reject parties like the DA that tolerate and perpetuate racism, calling for the eradication of white supremacy in the country.
The party has also criticized the African National Congress (ANC) for collaborating with the DA and enabling white supremacist leaders to hold power.
According to the EFF, the presence of white supremacists within the DA poses a direct threat to the dignity and humanity of black South Africans, undermining the country’s democratic values.
The party has called on citizens to work towards achieving genuine equality and to reject parties that support white supremacy.
The EFF’s condemnation of the DA’s ‘deep-rooted racism’ has reignited debates on racial discrimination in South Africa, sparking calls for action to address systemic racism within political parties.
