Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) leader, Corné Mulder condemns ongoing investigation by the Hawks into AfriForum, facing charges of high treason for allegedly “spreading misleading information.”
In a statement, Mulder criticised accusations against AfriForum, arguing they did not only contradict established legal principles but also overlook detrimental impact of the African National Congress (ANC) policies and state capture on South Africa.
Mulder emphasised ANC should not monopolise narrative surrounding the country’s circumstances, pointing to the findings of Zondo Commission that revealed ANC and National Assembly had concealed state capture reality for years.
He called on the Hawks to redirect their efforts toward those truly undermining democracy, instead of targeting AfriForum.
Describing charges against AfriForum as “ludicrous,” Mulder expressed concern the Hawks are being diverted from more pressing matters by politically motivated inquiries.
He emphasised importance of freedom of expression in a democratic South Africa, stating those with valid passports have the right to share their experiences globally.
Mulder insisted while spread of falsehoods must be countered, international community deserves an honest portrayal of current situation in South Africa.
He reaffirmed VF Plus commitment to transparency and truth, stating that informing the world about South Africa’s realities is crucial for well-being of the country.
Mulder pointed out that his party has been actively sharing information with the world, just like AfriForum.
