Guterres decries Gaza aid deaths, urges truce and probe

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday condemned the killing and wounding of Palestinians seeking humanitarian aid in Gaza, calling the situation unacceptable.

Civilians are risking—and losing—their lives to access food amid catastrophic shortages.

In a statement, Guterres emphasised  Palestinians possess fundamental right to adequate food and freedom from hunger.

He demanded an immediate independent investigation into the incidents and accountability for those responsible.

Basic needs in Gaza remain critically unmet, the UN Secretary General noted, stressing Israel obligations under international humanitarian law to facilitate relief for all civilians.

Unimpeded large-scale aid delivery must resume immediately, with UN operations guaranteed safety and full adherence to humanitarian principles.

Guterres reiterated calls for the unconditional release of all hostages and urged an immediate, permanent ceasefire to halt further suffering.
