Lephalale rolls out new fleet and EMS upgrades amid public buzz

Lephalale Municipality and Limpopo Health Department have launched dual initiatives to tackle service delivery and healthcare challenges, unveiling a new fleet of municipal vehicles and a revamped Emergency Medical Services (EMS) station at Ellisras Hospital.

Lephalale Mayor Aaron Mokgetle, alongside Speaker Grace Marakalala and other council officials, handed over 10 bakkies, a cutting-edge jet patcher for pothole repairs, and a grader for maintaining rural roads.

Mokgetle described the fleet as a response to growing community demands, emphasizing the importance of accountability and visible results.

“This investment is about action and accountability,” Mokgetle said. “These are not just vehicles; they are tools for change. We expect our teams to use them efficiently to improve road conditions and speed up services.”

On the healthcare front, Limpopo Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego inaugurated the upgraded EMS station at Ellisras Hospital, which now boasts modern infrastructure to reduce emergency response times.

Mashego also handed over 10 advanced ambulances equipped with life-saving technology and two patient transport vehicles, addressing ambulance shortages and improving healthcare access in rural areas.

“This station and these ambulances are proof of our commitment to putting health first,” Mashego said. “Lephalale residents deserve faster responses and better-equipped teams. Our goal is to ensure no one is left behind in their time of need.”

The announcements sparked a wave of online reactions, with residents sharing mixed opinions on social media. Lindie-Lee van der Merwe praised the jet patcher but urged action, posting, “Love the new jet patcher 👏 Now just waiting for its debut in Arend Street and Wells Street… we’ve got some very enthusiastic potholes ready 😅. I’ll make you a free before-and-after video 📹🔥. Now let’s move from marketing to maintenance! 👀.”

Skepticism also surfaced, with Sello Marcus Motloheloa commenting, “Elections time,” and Nthabiseng Senwamadi Budeli questioning the timing of the events, saying, “Heelang, two different ANC occasions.” Kagiso Rasebephi Shiko highlighted broader healthcare concerns, pointing to Witpoort Hospital’s poor condition and doubting the sustainability of progress under current leadership.

Despite the mixed public sentiment, officials remain confident that the initiatives will deliver tangible improvements.

The municipality aims to address road maintenance and service delivery gaps, while the health department projects enhanced emergency care and faster response times for Lephalale and surrounding rural communities.

The dual announcements reflect a push by local and provincial authorities to address critical infrastructure and healthcare needs, responding to increasing demands from residents and paving the way for more efficient services.
