The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has made remarkable strides in reducing crime, earning the province the distinction of having the lowest murder rate in the country
According to Limpopo Police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, this achievement is a testament to the tireless efforts of SAPS members.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, announced the impressive crime statistics, highlighting a 3.3% per capita decrease in murder cases per 100,000 population.
This decline is attributed to the dedication of SAPS members, who have worked tirelessly to combat crime and educate communities about the dangers of mob justice.
General Hadebe emphasised the importance of addressing vigilante justice, which undermines the rule of law, and committed to tackling other crime categories, including borderline, drug-related, and gender-based violence.
Key highlights of Limpopo’s crime statistics:
_Rape cases down: 3.8% decrease in rape cases and 6.0% decline in sexual offenses reported Âą
_Police interventions pay off: 9.8% increase in crimes detected through police interventions, with significant rises in illegal possession of firearms, drug-related offenses, and driving under the influence
