POLOKWANE, August 29 – A 32-year-old man received life imprisonment on Thursday for attempting to rape his biological mother in Seshego township, with an additional 10-year sentence for assault, the Limpopo High Court ruled.
The February 2024 attack occurred when the accused confronted his mother in their Extension 75B home, according to court records.
Neighbours intervened after hearing distress calls, preventing the sexual assault but not before the victim sustained injuries requiring hospitalisation.
Limpopo Police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed officers arrested the perpetrator within hours of the incident.
The case was escalated to specialised Family Violence investigators, with Sergeant Nation Teffo’s evidence securing conviction under South Africa’s Sexual Offenses Act.
Judge ordered permanent firearm prohibition and mandated registry on the National Sex Offenders List.
