Limpopo joint women police operation nets 59 arrests

POLOKWANE – A two-day interprovincial security operation coordinated by Limpopo transport MEC Violet Mathye and Waterberg District Commissioner Maj. Gen. Shamrhomba Masingi resulted in 59 arrests across three municipalities, authorities confirmed Saturday.

The Basadi Initiative – conducted August 29-30 along the R101 corridor spanning Pienaarsrivier, Northam, and Thabazimbi – involved 1084 vehicle inspections and 2206 personal searches.

The female-led operation combined forces from Limpopo, Gauteng, and North West law enforcement agencies.

Arrests included 24 immigration violations, four vehicle theft cases, and two unlicensed liquor sales.

Authorities issued 60 traffic citations totaling R27,400 and recovered illicit substances, copper wiring, and stolen property.

“This demonstrates our coordinated capacity to disrupt cross-border criminal networks,” said Provincial Police Commissioner Lt. Gen. Thembi Hadebe, praising the 230-officer task force drawn from crime intelligence, forensic units, and community safety partners.

The operation distributed 198 crime prevention pamphlets during highway checkpoints, while municipal traffic teams enforced liquor and road safety regulations.

Those arrested face court appearances September 1 in local magistrates’ courts.
