Limpopo police crackdown tender corruption

Limpopo Anti-Corruption Unit successfully obtained major conviction against Makako Godfrey Mashiloane, a 38-year-old man convicted of tender corruption in Thabazimbi.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a spokesperson for the Limpopo police, stated that Mashiloane’s troubles began after Anglo American mine employee reported he had offered R10,000 to unlawfully secure tenders.

Col Ledwaba said it was blatant effort to disrupt tender process integrity.

 He emphasised  police are dedicated to investigating such incidents rigorously to eradicate corruption.

After receiving report, Anti-Corruption Unit launched a probe,  resulting in police operation on July 6, 2022.

While the operation was ongoing, Mashiloane was apprehended passing money to  mine worker, resulting in his arrest and confiscation of cash.

The matter was subsequently moved to the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where Mashiloane received a 10-year jail term or a R20,000 fine, of which half was suspended for five years.

In addition,  state forfeited  R10,000 seized during  operation.

The sentence was welcomed by Provincial police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed sentence, stressing  it acts as  powerful deterrent for those participating in similar criminal actions.

Lt Gen Hadebe stated this sentence shows police dedication fighting corruption and guaranteeing accountability.

Col Ledwaba promised police will collaborate with community to uncover and bring to justice individuals involved in corrupt actions.
