Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba takes charge: Thabazimbi Municipality Council dissolved

In a bold and decisive move, Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba visited troubled Thabazimbi Municipality on Friday and announced dissolution of the council.

This decision comes after years of struggles between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA), which led to formation of parallel councils, each with its own set of administrative officials since 2021.

Mounting concern over municipality’s inability to effectively address service delivery issues and properly manage its resources has prompted Provincial Government to step in.

During her visit, Premier Ramathuba met with councillors, municipal managers, and labour unions to discuss decision to place municipality under administration in terms of Section 139(1)(c).

“The Provincial Government will appoint an administrator to ensure that residents’ rights to basic services are upheld while rebuilding Thabazimbi Local Municipality into a functioning entity,” said Premier Ramathuba.

She emphasised the importance of service delivery, especially in crucial areas like access to water and proper working conditions.

Premier Ramathuba also highlighted the municipality’s failure to address issues and submit timely representations, further underscoring the need for intervention to ensure that residents receive the services they deserve.

As Thabazimbi undergoes this period of transition, the Provincial Government is committed to working closely with all stakeholders to bring about positive change and improve the lives of those living in the municipality.

The dissolution of the council marks a new chapter for Thabazimbi, one that is filled with hope for a better future and improved service delivery for all residents.

Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba’s bold move sets the stage for positive change and marks the beginning of a new era for the troubled Municility.
