Giyani police launched a targeted operation alongside local Public Order Policing (POPS) units in Mbaula village, Limpopo after receiving intelligence about a man suspected of possessing illegal game meat.
During the raid, officers discovered a 45-year-old male with a freshly killed buffalo carcass nearby.
When questioned about its origin, the suspect failed to provide credible answers, leading to his immediate arrest on the scene.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed on Friday the arrest and stated the suspect will soon face charges of illegal game possession at the Giyani Magistrate Court.
Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the joint team swift action, highlighting their collaboration as key to recovering the carcass and securing the arrest.
Police investigations into the source and broader network of the illegal wildlife trade remain ongoing, Colonel Ledwaba added.
