“Minister Zulu stresses government support for unemployed SA, especially youth recipients of SRD grant”

Social Development Minister, Lindiwe Zulu emphasises the critical need of government support for South Africans facing unemployment and the resulting economic hardship.

According to reliable data, young adults comprise a considerable share of the recipients of the Social Relief Distress (SRD) grant.

Speaking at the ANC’s Social Transformation Subcommittee, Minister  Zulu expressed her insights regarding priority 3 of 6 within the #ANCManifesto.

“This priority highlights our initiative to confront and mitigate high living costs whilst simultaneously bolstering comprehensive social security with an aim to decrease those living expenses, “said  Minister Zulu.

“In addition to recognising our youth’s aspirations for obtaining or creating job opportunities,” she says, “extending committed support towards individuals experiencing unemployment and associated financial challenges proves equally critical.”

Minister Zulu has accepted that the state-backed distribution of the R350 grant would continue, as previously affirmed by the Finance Minister.

“Furthermore,” she continues on to explain, “We have undertaken systematic exploration into prospective policy adjustments concerning potential financing arrangements in relation to a basic income grant.”
