Modimolle Regional Court delivers life sentences for unspeakable crimes against innocence

In a groundbreaking ruling, Modimolle Regional Court has on Friday delivered powerful blow against injustice, sentencing Jacob Kwinda,57, to two life terms for the horrific rapes of two innocent eight-year-old girls.

A chilling episode unfolded on the night of October 25, 2015, when Kwinda lured the children from their home near Raphuthi village.

Once their trust was gained, he subjected them to unimaginable trauma.

The victims bravely reported the incident to their siblings, triggering an immediate response that led to Kwinda’s arrest.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit, the case was thoroughly investigated, ensuring the evidence collected would lead to a solid conviction.

The accused was never granted bail until he was finally found guilty of raping the two children and ultimately sentenced to two life direct imprisonment during November 2017.

Kwinda served three years in jail, and was granted parole and released in the year 2021.

However, his freedom was short-lived.

Following the intervention of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the high court revisited the case, summoning Kwinda once more.

On March 26, 2025, Modimolle Regional Court reaffirmed its stance on justice and sentenced him to two life terms for his actions nearly after a decade.

Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the Family Violence and Child Protection Unit for their exemplary investigation, emphasizing their vital role in keeping communities safe from sexual offenders.
