The National Senior Certificate (NSC) class of 2024 has made history with an impressive pass rate of 87.3%, marking a significant increase from the previous year.
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube announced the outstanding results at the Mosaiek Lifestyle Centre in Fairland, Johannesburg on Monday.
Every province in South Africa achieved above an 84% pass rate, with each showing improvement from the previous year.
The Free State led the way with a remarkable 91% pass rate, followed closely by KZN at 89.5% and Gauteng at 88.4%.
The most improved province was the Northern Cape, which saw an impressive 8.3% increase from the previous year.
Overall, the Class of 2024 has shown great improvement and dedication to their studies.
Not only did the class achieve a high overall pass rate, but they also saw an increase in Bachelor passes. Nearly 48% of matric candidates qualified for admission to Bachelor studies, a 6.9% increase from the previous year.
KZN was the top-performing province in this category, with over 84,000 Bachelor passes.
Female learners also outperformed their male counterparts in Bachelor passes, showcasing the dedication and hard work of young women in South Africa.
In addition to the impressive pass rates, the Class of 2024 achieved over 319,000 distinctions, with every province increasing their number of distinctions from the previous year. KZN once again led the way in distinctions, followed by the Western Cape and Gauteng.
Matriculants can look forward to receiving their results on January 14, 2025, with various platforms available for access.
Despite some challenges, the Class of 2024 has shown resilience and determination in achieving their academic goals.
