Plans are in motion to repatrate the bodies of the Botswana citizens who tragically lost their lives in a devastating bus accident in Limpopo at the start of the long Easter holidays.
The sorrowful news was delivered by Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, as investigations are still ongoing to uncover the cause of this horrific accident.
Amidst the chaos and destruction, a glimmer of hope emerged as an 8-year-old girl miraculously survived the inferno that engulfed the bus carrying 45 passengers.
The scene was one of pure devastation, with some victims lying lifeless and charred on the ground, while others were trapped inside the fiery tomb that the bus had become.
The morning sun on Thursday bore witness to the tragedy that unfolded on the R518 Road in Waterberg District, Limpopo, between Marken and Mokopane.
The unsuspecting travelers, reportedly members of the Zion Christian Church from Botswana en route to the annual Easter pilgrimage at Moria, Polokwane, met a tragic fate as the bus lost control near Mamatlakala Bridge and plunged into the gorge below.
The deafening screech and the earth-shattering crash were followed by a fiery explosion that consumed the passengers inside, leaving behind a scene of unimaginable horror.
Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, together with Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, visited the crash site to pay their respects to the 45 lives lost in this heartbreaking accident.
As they stood at the Mmamatlakala Bridge, between Marken and Mokopane, surrounded by the mayors of Bela Bela and Modimolle/Mookgophong Local Municipalities, as well as the Acting Executive Mayor of Waterberg District Municipality, a sense of unity and grief hung heavy in the air.
The message of safety was loud and clear as they vowed to do everything in their power to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future.
