CAPE TOWN— Western Cape police seized industrial-scale illegal alcohol production equipment and arrested seven Somalian nationals on Monday during a raid on a clandestine Klapmuts facility, authorities said, marking the latest crackdown on illicit liquor trade in the region.
Maitland Flying Squad officers acting on intelligence stormed the R44 road compound, uncovering containers holding 10,000 litres of ethanol, bottling machinery, and thousands of empty glass bottles, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

“Five male suspects aged 25 to 43 and two 20-year-old women face charges under the Liquor Act,” Twigg said, adding that the group would appear in Paarl Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
