In a bungled attempt to outsmart police, two cunning suspects travelling in Toyota Quantum stolen in Lephalale on Saturday resorted to theatrics in a desperate bid to evade arrest.
However, their dramatic performance was quickly unraveled by astute officers on patrol.
During a routine joint patrol by Hoopdal and Cumberland police, the suspects were spotted driving stolen vehicle between R510 and Sentrum T-Junction outside Thabazimbi.
Despite their best efforts to deceive authorities, the suspects were soon caught red-handed.
One of the suspects, in a bid to distract officers, feigned severe stomach pain and began theatrically rolling on the ground, clutching his abdomen in apparent agony.
His accomplice played along, claimed he was rushing his sick passenger to hospital, but police were not convinced.
Upon further investigation, the stolen vehicle was confirmed to be the missing Toyota Quantum from Lephalale.

The duo, both 31 years old, were promptly arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba of the Limpopo police confirmed the performance, stating that the two suspects attempted to evade arrest but were eventually arrested.
“The driver reportedly claimed he was rushing a sick passenger to the hospital,” said Brigadier Mashaba.
The pair is set to face charges related to the stolen vehicle in the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court.
This incident serves as a stark reminder that no amount of theatrics can outsmart the long arm of the law.
These suspects learned the hard way that justice will always prevail, no matter how elaborate the performance may be.
