President Ramaphosa suspends Deputy Minister Dipuo Peters

Amid growing pressure from various groups, President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially notified Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Dipuo Peters, of his decision to suspend her.

This comes after Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members Interests imposed a sanction on Peters for violating the Code of Ethical Conduct during her time as Minister of Transport.

The committee’s investigation found Peters guilty and she has been suspended without pay for one term.

Adding to her woes, Peters has also been barred from participating in all parliamentary activities, including debates, meetings, and functions,

This decision, effective from February 28, ends on March 28 will undoubtedly have a significant impact on Peters’ political career.

The Committee’s findings were a result of complaints filed by well-known activist Zackie Achmat, who plans to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming elections, along with Zukiswa Fokazi and non-profit organization #UniteBehind.

These complaints were lodged in September 2022, following the release of the explosive Zondo Commission report.
