The Thabazimbi Regional Court handed down a 25-year imprisonment sentence to a 39-year-old male accused of raping a 14-year-old in April 2021.
During the trial, it was revealed that on April 11, 2021, the accused raped the victim, who was known to him. A passerby witnessed the incident and promptly notified the police.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed that a case of rape was opened, and the suspect was traced and arrested.
The case was investigated by Warrant Officer Daniel Lotter of the Thabazimbi Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences unit.
The accused, Nelson Kabelo Sediroa, 39, was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the sentencing and commended the investigating officer and his team for their excellent work.
