Three children killed in Limpopo house fire, negligence probe launched

THOHOYANDOU, August 30 – South African Police Services have opened a negligence investigation after three children aged two to four died in a house fire at Itsani village, Limpopo, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

Emergency services responded on Friday evening to reports of a burning single-room dwelling where the children were trapped in an inferno.

Firefighters discovered the victims’ remains after extinguishing the blaze, according to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Preliminary findings indicate the children had been playing near the structure prior to the incident.

“The sequence of events leading to their presence inside remains undetermined,” Ledwaba stated, noting forensic experts are analysing the fire’s origin.

Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe ordered an accelerated probe into potential parental negligence under South Africa’s Children’s Act.
