University hunger strike demands Israel divestment amid Gaza crisis

A group of eight City University of New York (CUNY) students, staff, and faculty have been on a hunger strike for the past ten days, demanding that the university divest from Israel.

The hunger strike, which has taken place on the steps of the CUNY Graduate Centre in Manhattan, has become a focus of political education and mutual aid.

In a statement,  Institute for Public Accuracy (IPA) notes the group highlights Israel siege of Gaza, endangering 930,000 children with starvation.

The group has denounced Israel blocking of over 3,000 medical aid trucks into Gaza and the continued bombing campaign targeting schools, hospitals, and refugee camps.

Despite calls and emails, the CUNY Chancellor has refused to acknowledge hunger strike and the demands for divestment.

The group believes  CUNY investment in Israeli corporations and weapons manufacturers provides material support to the atrocities in Gaza.

According to IPA the hunger strikers are determined to continue their protest until their demands are met, calling on CUNY to take stand against  genocide in Gaza and divest from Israel.

IPA notes media reports – DropSiteNews writes: “‘Democracy Now!’ reports that Harvard graduate Zehra Imam received her diploma, and Megha Vemuri of Massachusetts Institute of Technology — banned from her graduation ceremony allegedly for speaking out against  genocide in Gaza —  ultimately received hers.

But, Logan Rozos of NYU, who also spoke out,  claimed  is still being denied his diploma.”

AntiWar.com stating: “Israeli forces Kill 95 Palestinians in Gaza Over 24 hours.”

Dan Cohen and Alaa from Gaza report: “Exclusive: 90 Days as a Human Shield for Israeli soldiers in Gaza.”

The Guardian reports: “Palestinian Red Crescent details medic’s account of 15 colleagues’ slaughter.” CNN reports: “‘Death and hunger’: Videos, expert analysis and witnesses point to Israeli gunfire in Gaza aid site shooting.”
