US slaps sanctions on entities supporting Iran nuclear programme

The US Treasury Department announced on Wednesday it has sanctioned five entities and one individual in Iran.

These sanctions were implemented in response to their support for major organisations involved in the country’s nuclear programme.

According to US Treasury Department, targeted entities play crucial roles in Iran nuclear activities, including uranium enrichment.

Among sanctioned entities are Atbin Ista Technical and Engineering Company (AIT), which facilitates the procurement of components for Iran centrifuge technology company, TESA.

Pegah Aluminum Arak Company (Pegah) manufactures aluminum products for TESA, while Thorium Power Company (TPC) is developing thorium-fueled reactor technologies for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

Pars Reactors Construction and Development Company (Satra Pars) is responsible for nuclear reactor projects under AEOI, and Azarab Industries Co. constructs power plants, refineries, and petrochemical projects for AEOI.

Chairman of AIT, Majid Mosallat, has also been sanctioned for overseeing procurement and shipment of items to TESA.

These sanctions are part of US maximum pressure campaign on Iran, with the aim of preventing the country from developing nuclear weapons.

The Treasury Department emphasised it will continue to hold accountable those supporting Iran nuclear program.

“The Iranian regime reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons remains grave threat to US and regional stability,” said US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.

He added, “The sanctions are taken under Executive Order 13382, targeting proliferators of weapons of mass destruction and their supporters.”
