Gautrain rolls out half-price rides for low-income commuters – free weekend rides up for grabs

In an exciting initiative aimed at making public transport more accessible, Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has called upon eligible residents to take advantage of the newly launched KlevaMova product.

This initiative offers a remarkable 50% discount on Gautrain train fares, ensuring that individuals from lower-income households, students, scholars, pensioners, and SASSA disability grant recipients can enjoy affordable travel.

“We envision a Gauteng that unites all its communities, regardless of their circumstances,” Diale-Tlabela stated. “Our goal is to enhance connectivity and accessibility, allowing residents to seize the opportunities they have long deserved while promoting inclusive economic growth.

I encourage qualifying individuals to register for KlevaMova and experience our efficient, safe, and convenient public transport service. Plus, for two exciting days this weekend, pre-registered customers can travel for free.”

From May 24 to 25, 2025, eligible individuals can also bring up to three guests to enjoy the free travel offer.

With limited availability, interested participants must register by May 21, 2025, at klevamovaweekend.gautrainalerts.co.za.

Upon arrival at a Gautrain station, registrants will be greeted by promoters who will verify their eligibility and provide wristbands for seamless passage throughout the day.

“The free travel promotion not only allows passengers to explore Gautrain without charge, but it also presents an opportunity to enroll in a program that significantly lowers daily commuting costs,” Diale-Tlabela added.

The KlevaMova product offers the discount on train fares through weekly, monthly, and return trip options, with interested individuals required to submit relevant documentation for approval.

“Affordable public transport is not just a luxury; it is a fundamental service that empowers residents and enhances access to jobs and social activities,” Diale-Tlabela concluded, emphasising the transformative potential of accessible transport in boosting economic activity within the city.

For more information on this product, members of the public may contact the Gautrain on toll-free number 0800 428 87246 (0800 GAUTRAIN), daily from 05h30 to 20h00, visit http://www.gautrain.co.za/or visit a Gautrain station (excluding OR Tambo) Monday to Saturday between 08h00 and 17h00.
