Concerns raised over security contract awarded to company linked to Tshwane ANC Deputy Mayor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has raised concerns over a R49 million security contract awarded to Triotic Protection Services, a company linked to the ANC Deputy Mayor of Tshwane, Eugene Modise.

The contract, awarded by the Gauteng Health Department, includes guarding five clinics in the Tshwane area as well as the Office of the MEC.

According to DA Tshwane Councillor Jacqui Uys, Triotic was started by Modise and the company’s HR Manager turned director is allegedly the mother of Modise’s child.

Although Modise stepped down as a director of Triotic in 2023, the registered company address belongs to his mother, Nelly Modise.

Furthermore, Triotic has been flagged for owing R59 million in taxes over the past 5 years, raising questions about their tax clearance certificate. Despite this, the company was still chosen to guard the MEC’s office, prompting calls for a forensic investigation into the possible benefits Modise may be receiving from the city’s R300 million security tender.

Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya has launched an investigation into her Deputy Mayor following pressure from the DA. The DA Gauteng has also vowed to monitor the probe in Tshwane and push for an independent investigation into Triotic’s contracts at the provincial level.

The DA remains skeptical of the appointment of Triotic and will continue to scrutinize the situation to ensure transparency and accountability in government
