Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) has demanded the immediate resignation of former Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe, Deputy Speaker Nomvuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela, and ANC Chief Whip Lesego Makhubela following recent revelations of political interference, corruption, and the deliberate suppression of justice within the legislature.
In a statement on Friday, DA Gauteng Leader, Solly Msimanga, stated that the actions of the implicated ANC officials to halt disciplinary processes into allegations of fraud and wasteful expenditure represent a gross abuse of power.
The findings of a forensic investigation initiated by former Secretary Peter Skosana have shown that senior ANC officials prioritized their party’s electoral ambitions over public accountability and good governance.
Skosana’s dismissal for attempting to recover public funds is seen as shameful and indicative of the extent to which the ANC is willing to go to protect those involved in corruption.
Msimanga emphasized implicated members of the GPL must resign from their positions immediately, as their continued presence undermines the legislature’s responsibility to ensure accountability and transparency.
The DA has announced plans to submit an urgent ethics complaint against the individuals involved in the corrupt interference.
The DA is committed to holding those in power accountable and ensuring that public institutions are not used to protect political interests at the expense of accountability.
The people of Gauteng deserve better from their leaders, and the DA vows to continue fighting for justice and integrity within the GPL.
The ANC’s interference in executive and administrative processes only serves to undermine the integrity of the legislature and its mandate to serve the people.
