“DA slams ActionSA’s ‘final betrayal’ in Tshwane coalition”

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has strongly slammed ActionSA’s decision to dismantle the Tshwane multi-party coalition, labeling it the party’s “final betrayal”.
According to Willie Aucamp, DA National Spokesperson, Herman Mashaba’s move will put the capital city’s future at risk.

The Tshwane coalition has achieved notable successes, including enhancing the city’s finances and audit outcome, securing energy independence, and addressing the Hammanskraal water crisis.
However, ActionSA’s sudden U-turn has been met with widespread opposition, even from its own members.
The party’s actions have been marked by “lies, deceit, and betrayal”.

In fact, more people have signed petitions against ActionSA in the past two weeks than voted for the party in the 2024 general election.
This overwhelming opposition underscores the concern that ActionSA’s decision is not in the best interest of Tshwane residents.

The DA believes Mashaba is seeking a deal with the ANC and EFF to elect an ActionSA mayor, potentially enthroning the EFF as kingmakers in a new coalition.

This would bring chaos and instability to the city. As Aucamp puts it,
Mashaba has turned ActionSA into the “useful idiots of anti-constitutional forces” in South African politics.

The DA vows to fight against this outcome, preserving the progress made with coalition partners.
While Mashaba may be intent on destroying ActionSA, the City of Tshwane should not suffer the same fate.
The DA will prioritise Tshwane residents’ interests, ensuring that progress made is not undone by ActionSA’s reckless decision.
Meanwhile, AfriForum has handed over a petition signed by 17,000 residents to Tshwane’s coalition partners, urging them to prevent an ANC-EFF coalition ¹.
“This move highlights the growing concern among residents about the potential consequences of ActionSA’s decision,” added Aucamp..
