“DA welcomes SIU probe into Gauteng Human Settlements Department”

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has applauded President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to authorise the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate allegations of serious maladministration at the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements ¹.

According to Mervyn Cirota, DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Human Settlements, “The SIU’s probe is a crucial step towards uncovering the truth behind the department’s questionable tender allocations”

The SIU will investigate claims of maladministration in two tenders: the construction of 150 ablution and sanitation facilities at the Sicelo Shiceka informal settlement and 180 walk units at Sicelo Shiceka Extension 5 ¹.

Cirota emphasized that the DA hopes this investigation will not drag on without consequences. “All corruption and maladministration must be dealt with swiftly, and those found guilty must face justice” ¹.
He stressed that Gauteng residents deserve transparency regarding potential corruption, fraud, or maladministration in the tender allocation process ¹.

“Corruption has long plagued service delivery and infringed upon residents’ freedoms. Only an accountable DA government can liberate citizens from corruption and establish a responsive government” ¹, Cirota concluded.

The DA has been vocal about its concerns regarding the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements, previously highlighting issues such as deteriorating living conditions at Madala Hostel and abandoned human settlements projects
