Dawn to dusk: Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit nets major drug hauls in 48-hour blitz

Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) has delivered crushing blow to organised crime networks, apprehending multiple suspects and seizing staggering array of illicit substances during relentless two-day operation across Eldorado Park, Freedom Park, and Eikenhof.

The crackdown concluded on Saturday, saw officers work around the clock to dismantle drug distribution channels plaguing local communities.

The operation escalated on Friday night when AGU members, acting on tip-off, stormed Freedom Park and arrested suspect caught red-handed with five ziplock bags of crystal meth.

Officers also uncovered meticulously divided stash of mandrax  tablets—three full, three halved, and fourteen quartered—highlighting calculated precision of street-level drug peddling.

Hours later, the team struck again in the same area, nabbing second suspect carrying four packets of crystal meth and fragmented mandrel tablets.

As Saturday dawned, the AGU’ momentum only intensified.

During routine stop-and-search operation in Eldorado Park, officers intercepted suspect concealing twelve Ziplock bags of crystal meth and four mandrax tablets.

The dragnet then swept eastward to Eikenhof, where a major bust yielded 26 bags of crystal meth, eight mandrax tablets, and six packets of dagga—a haul suggesting links to broader trafficking operations.

Brigadier Maphoto, AGU Commander, hailed the coordinated efforts: “These seizures aren’t just about confiscating drugs—they’re surgical strikes against the ecosystems fueling addiction and violence.”

Emphasising human cost of narcotics, he added, “Every tablet we intercept represents lives potentially saved from ruin.”

With all suspects now detained at local stations awaiting court appearances, authorities are urging residents to maintain vigilance.

“Communities are our eyes and ears,” said Sergeant Roxanne Gibb, Gauteng Police Spokesperson.

“When citizens and law enforcement unite, we transform neighborhoods from battlegrounds into safe havens.”
