EFF Gauteng slams Daily Maverick for ‘dishonest’ reporting on water crisis

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gauteng has come out swinging against Daily Maverick and its reporters, Pauli Van Wyk and Ferial Haffajee, for what they are calling “dishonest” reporting.

The EFF has strongly condemned Daily Maverick for attempting to link the party to Johannesburg’s water crisis in their recent article titled “Exposed: How ANC-EFF Cadre Deployment Crashes Johannesburg’s Water Supply.”

According to EFF Gauteng spokesperson, Dumisani Baleni, the article maliciously tries to tie the EFF to executive and non-executive deployments at the Johannesburg Water Board.

Despite the fact that none of the listed board members have any connection to the EFF, Daily Maverick has failed to retract or correct the article.

The whistleblower cited in the article also provided no evidence linking the EFF to the claims made in the article.

Baleni has pointed out that the EFF only holds portfolios in Public Safety and Health and Social Development and has no involvement in the Water Department.

In a statement on Tuesday, EFF believes that Daily Maverick has lost its credibility as a legitimate news outlet and is now serving as a mouthpiece for the Democratic Alliance (DA) and its allies.

They accuse Daily Maverick of deliberately targeting the EFF to tarnish its reputation and divert attention from the real issues at hand, such as outdated infrastructure and funding problems that have plagued Johannesburg for years.

The EFF urged Gauteng residents to be aware of the ongoing presence of StratCom, a covert apartheid communications operation now manifesting as malicious embedded journalism.

The EFF sees this as part of a larger effort to delegitimise progressive organisations and called on Daily Maverick to focus on reporting the facts rather than pushing a political agenda.
